  • What did Disciplinary Literacy teaching look like in a history and physics class? What might it look like in other school subjects?
  • Apply the concept of content, content area, and disciplinary literacy to your own learning/teaching experiences. How do each of these concepts lead you to different interpretations of your observations?
  • How does disciplinary teaching look across the different school subjects?

  1. In my blog post, I argue that constructing knowledge in disciplinary literacy can benefit our students for life while also explaining the difficulty of combining the three concepts of content, content area, and disciplinary literacy into my teaching practice.

The blog I commented on: https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/166162837/posts/34

Argument: I explained how disciplinary literacy looks inside a physics and history class. Also, I discussed the ways my host teacher implemented disciplinary literacy in his classroom during my observations. I argued that teachers must continue to implement disciplinary literacy teaching into their classroom to advance the education of their students.

  3. In my initial post for this week, I argue that while using the NGSS standards across the disciplines sounds great on paper, it may be difficult for teachers to do in practice (from a pre-service teacher standpoint). https://littleteacherbigworld04.wordpress.com/2019/09/10/using-commonalities-in-teaching-disciplinary-literacy/
In my comment for this week I question makes a classroom discussion an example of disciplinary literacy https://batmanandrobinandace.wordpress.com/2019/09/09/the-importance-of-disciplinary-literacy/comment-page-1/?unapproved=2&moderation-hash=a57d418e538ae5785a761097c8d2239a#comment-2

How Disciplinary Literacy Looks in Different Classrooms

    My post:

My post this week talks about what my response was to reading the lessons that were presented in the Rainey et al article and how it might be enticing simply to teach the content in the quickest, least in depth way possible but ultimately how that involves committing a great disservice to the students.
